The 75 Gallon Tank
Here’s the quick run down:
My main tank is a 75 gallon salt water fish tank. It is 4 feet wide, 18 inches deep and 20 inches tall. The fish tank sits on top of a wooden cabinet base.
The aquarium inhabitants are as follows:
- About 10 dfferent snails, made up of 3 different species
- 4 red leg hermit crabs (small ones)
- An electric blue knee hermit crab (also known as “blue knuckle hermit” or “electric blue hermit”)
- A halloween hermit crab
- A blue tang
- A firefish
- Two clownfish
My tank hardware is as follows:
- Aqua C Remora protein skimmer
- Magnum 350 cannister filter
- A heater
- A few five gallon buckets
- A temperature gauge
- A light fixture that holds a 48 inch bulb
Also in the tank:
- Quite a bit of live rock
- Coral sand base mixed with other types of small rocks
- A few extra hermit/snail shells
Some favorite maintenance/feeding supplies:
- A fish feeding ring (actually pretty handy)
- A seaweed clip
- Lots of seaweed, flakes, pellets, and shrimp to keep the aquarium inhabitants fed
- Glass scrubbers
- Rock vacuum and siphon tubes
- Salinity measuring tools
- Water quality testing kits
Inside the cabinet base are:
- A power strip
- A box of random filter supplies
- A power cannister filter
- With tubes running out the back from the cannister filter to the top of the tank
I also like to use a 4 stage RO/DI filter that I have set up under the sink in the kitchen. The water filtration unit provides me with purified water for fish tank use, which is great for water quality and overall aquarium health.
On top of the aquarium is a nice wooden hood. The hood is about 10 inches tall and caps off the aquarium setup very nicely. It hides the top panels of the tank, the tubing, the lighting, and the filtration units.Having a quality hood on the tank puts all the focus on the front of the tank, on the fish and inhabitants.
